Local Training Providers
We also support parents to assess their learning goals and can help highlight courses that are available at local colleges and further education centres.

This service, 1-1 Learning Support is delivered by Andrea Lawson and is an individual personalised advice session that helps parents to decide which learning is the best and signposts to local providers if we don't supply this within the Children's Centre. Our support doesn't stop there, we can also take parents along to visit and enrol in courses, to get to know the staff and find out course information.

Local providers we link with are:

  • Open Learning Centre, Bedlington: Literacy, Numeracy, IT courses are available. The Open Learning Centre can be contacted on 01670 823821.
  • Northumberland College, Ashington: A full, wide ranging curriculum is available at Northumberland College. They can be contacted on 01670 841200.
  • Women's Health Action Centre, Ashington: A dedicated service to women can help support learning and personal development. Please ring WHAC on 01670 853977 for more information.

Peep (Peers Early Education Partnership)
Peep is for parents/carers and their children from birth to four years and is a structured activity to promote learning together and recognises and supports parents to be their child's first educator. The sessions are relaxed and fun and offer a variety of activities; stories, songs, messy play and painting. Sessions also give parents ideas and activities to take home turning every day situations into a learning opportunity for their child.

Peep can also be accredited through Open College Network if parents wish to produce a little evidence to create a portfolio of their activities and learning. 1-1 support is offered to parents by our Family Learning Worker, Andrea Lawson. She is our trained assess and can assist in developing a small portfolio and then assesses progression until the award is complete. Evaluation comments from participants who have completed this qualification have been thrilled and have suggested that this is a worthwhile qualification.

To find out more about Peep and Peep OCN please contact our Bedlington Centre on 01670 822714
